the aapc exams from 2024 so if you are planning to write APC exam either CPC or any other certification in 2024 so this update is for you APC has announced from 2024 they will be including Fillin the blanks questions as well in all aapc exams Yes you heard me right so far there are 100 questions and all these 100 questions
Question in cpz are multiple choice questions right that already so from 2024 there’s going to be a slight change there will be fill in the blanks questions also so the first question what comes into your mind will it be difficult Surya it will not be difficult if you have prepared well if you really prepared well fill in the blanks or multiple choice question will not be a big issue for you because you’re well prepared if you’re not well prepared
Then that will be a hindrance because if you really know which section has this kind of proced procedure for example if they’re talking about an endom you know where is endm section is then it is not a big deal for you if you really prepared well then fill in the blanks it’s not a big deal but if you haven’t prepared well and you have no idea or you knowledge of searching codes all by yourself this might be a small problem but you can overcome this practice
Really well so the second question that will come in mind is or all 100 questions will be fill in the blanks question no that is not the case here then it is really difficult for you all if it’s all just imagine if all 100 questions are fill in the blank questions that 4 hours will not be enough for everyone it is not all fill in- the blank question it is a hybrid of questions you will have multiple choice questions as well along with that
Filling fill in the blanks questions so I think in the beginning the ratio will be very less for fill in- the blank questions because they just introduced that one that is my judgment I don’t know exactly practically thinking they will not introduce 50 percentage 50% percentage of fill in the blanks and 50% of multiple choice question in the beginning at least so the third question is how to prepare to combat the situation you should know the number
Series well that is for example seven series is Radiology eight series is pathology like that you should know the series well and should know the pattern of each chapters for example how the surgery will start like in everything in all the things surgery will start with an incision then exision like that you should know all these patterns if you know the patterns it will be easy for you to the for the fill in the blank questions then the second preparation
Here is you should go through the book several times I encourage all the medical coding students minimum you should have gone through the CPT book two to three times minimum two to three times you should have gone through from cover to cover you should have just gone through all the codes all the footnotes all the instruction guidelines that is provided in the book then only you’ll have that idea like where to find code and which kind of procedure is located
In which kind of the which area of the book so you’ll have that idea to get that idea you should go through the book completely like minimum two times the third tip is practice more practice more mock test and when you’re practicing for mock test practice as if there is no multiple choice options because I know like all the coders who are going to appear for the exam in 2024 you will not have idea about the fill in the blanks but you will have the old mock question
Papers right so those mock question papers treat all those multiple choice questions as fill in the blanks if you read and practice like this then fill in the blanks is not a big deal for you so practice well for the exam in 2024 and crack it in the first go all the best for more such updates don’t forget to subscribe and hit the notification icon this sua Johnson your medical coding guide
Sometimes rare pathology is the best learning tool. This is an example that provides many opportunities to demonstrate the principles of coding a mad system. And because the case involves conditions related to breast implants that doctors are beginning to define and understand, this case also allows you to learn about new diagnostic codes.
Here is an overview of the case, from context to findings. Background: A 3-year-old breast implant patient presents with pain and tenderness in the outer quadrant of the right breast. Previous cytology results indicated possible non-Hodgkin’s disease
Example: The surgeon submits a right sentinel lymph node for immediate evaluation, and a partial mastectomy of the right breast that includes a mastectomy of the surrounding seroma and a fibrous scar capsule in the adjacent breast.
- Right axillary sentinel lymph node
- After examination of the frozen section, the surgeon directs the right axillary lymph
Department of pathology:
- A comprehensive review of breast implants
- A comparison of breast milk shown in four blocks
- Wright-Giemsa enhanced cytology staining for seroma in the mammary capsule
- Tissue block immunohistochemical staining for differentiation cluster (CD30) and Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase (ALK)
- Internal Analysis of the Frozen Section of Sentinel Node Blocks Sentinel Evaluation
- Correct axillary lymphadenectomy
Diagnosis: Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) involving the breast. Discover the different types
The case includes many different types that form your privacy settings.
The first example is the mad view. You will file the pathologist’s examination of the four breast implants and capsule as 88307 Level V – Surgical Pathology, Gross and Microscopic Examination
… breast, mastectomy – bias / group.
You will also report a gross examination to determine what is included as 88300 Level I – Surgical Pathology Gross Examination Only. The presence of sentinel lymph nodes is a different example that receives another unit of 88307… Sentinel lymph node for the examination of pathology.
The last example is a right axillary lymphadenectomy, which you must report as another item of 88307… Lymph nodes, regional resection.
Summary: CPT also provides 88309 Level VI – Surgical Pathology, Gross and Microscopic Examination…Breast, Mastectomy with Regional Lymph Nodes to describe the type of breast mastectomy that involves lymph nodes.
This case does not reflect 88309 because the surgeon identified the type of breast as a part of the mastectomy, the surgeon submitted a separate axillary lymphadenectomy after conducting an examination. Type 88309 involves the entire breast (usually including the skin, areola, and nipple), some or all of the lymph nodes, and possibly breast wall tissue. You may see a surgical procedure called radical mastectomy (or modified radical), total mastectomy, or total mastectomy.
